Families are invited to kick off the 2026-27 Saturday Academy series with"My Backyard," an engaging event designed to help students and families explore the people, places and organizations that make the Lackawanna community unique.
The Saturday Academy will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Truman Elementary School. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with a variety of local organizations and learn more about the resources, history and opportunities available throughout the community. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Children in grades K-8 must be accompanied by an adult.
Community partners featured during the event include the Lackawanna Public Library, Collaborative Center of WNY, Health Equity of Erie County, Steel Plant Museum, WildWood WNY, Parent-Family Resource Center, Erie County Health, and the Lackawanna Historical Association.
The event is designed to help families discover all the things that make Lackawanna special while connecting with valuable local resources and organizations.
