Students in Miss Saleh and Miss Rzepka’s 5th grade class recently celebrated Black History Month with a meaningful research project. Each student selected an influential African American who made an impact on history and researched that person’s life, accomplishments and contributions.
Through the project, students practiced important research skills such as gathering information from multiple sources, identifying key details and organizing their notes. They learned about a variety of leaders, innovators and trailblazers who helped shape history.
This work also helped prepare students for an upcoming autobiography writing unit. By studying the important events and achievements in someone else’s life, students are building the skills they will soon use to write about their own stories.
