This past week marked a truly historic milestone for Martin Road Elementary School. After 22 years, our school community is proudly breaking ground on the first-ever Martin Road Elementary playground — a space dedicated to play, exploration, inclusion, and joy for all students.
The new playground will span a large multi-zone outdoor area designed to support active, imaginative, and collaborative play. Students will soon enjoy:
Two commerical, fully ADA-complaint and inclusive playground systems containing multiple climbers, slides, interactive panels, bridges, and ladders
Two, 3 - bay swing sets containing ADA-compliant swing seats
Ground-level play components designed for students of all abilities including three panel rock wall, pebble path balance jumpers, and metallophone for musical fun
Each playground features shaded areas as well as several benches to support rest, supervision, and inclusive participation
Every piece of equipment has been thoughtfully selected to ensure ADA compliance, creating a playground where every child can safely participate, engage, and have fun.
This day would not have been possible without the unwavering support of one person in particular and his extraordinary generosity that helped make this dream a reality. The Martin Road School community will be forever grateful to Mr. Mike Sanders for his generosity, leadership, and steadfast commitment to our students and the entire Lackawanna community. This playground will stand as a testament to his belief in our children and their future.
A new chapter of play, joy, and possibility is beginning at Martin Road Elementary! Stay tuned for more updates!
