Martin Road Elementary School proudly hosted its first annual “Touch a Truck” event on a beautiful spring morning, bringing excitement, education, and community spirit together in one memorable day. Students had the opportunity to get up close and personal with a variety of trucks and service vehicles, all while learning about the vital roles they play in keeping our city running safely and smoothly.
This special event was made possible through the incredible collaboration between our school and the larger Lackawanna community. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Lackawanna Police Department, Lackawanna Fire Department, Lackawanna Department of Public Works, Lackawanna City School District Maintenance Department, Five Star Towing, and Wow Wags on Wheels Mobile Grooming Service for generously donating their time and equipment to make the morning such a success.
The “Touch a Truck” experience allowed students to climb aboard service vehicles, ask questions, and meet the professionals who operate them every day. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of community connections and how schools and local organizations can come together to enrich students’ learning experiences beyond the classroom.
A special thank you goes to Mrs. Vicaretti and SRO Kwiatkowski, whose hard work and planning brought this event to life. Their dedication to creating meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for students is deeply appreciated by the entire school community.
We look forward to making “Touch a Truck” an annual tradition and continuing to celebrate the strong partnerships between our school and the city of Lackawanna. Together, we are building a stronger, more connected community—one event at a time.
