Mrs. Ross' 4th grade class was buzzing with excitement this week as students dove into a fun and interactive lesson on using context clues to figure out the meaning of unknown words. With pencils in hand and thinking caps on, students learned how to become word detectives by looking for hints in the sentences around tricky vocabulary.
After practicing with examples, students put their new skills to the test by writing short paragraphs featuring their own made-up words! Each paragraph included clever clues to help the reader guess what the imaginary word meant. From “glonks” that bounced across the playground to “snazzles” that made everyone giggle, the creativity was endless!
The best part? Students took turns to read their paragraph aloud while the class tried to guess the meaning of the mystery word. Laughter filled the room with every creative clue and wild guess.
To wrap up the lesson, students hopped onto Blooket for a fun review game, competing to show off their new context clue superpowers. It was a lesson full of learning, laughter and lots of made-up words — a perfect example of how fun learning can be!
