Officer Keith Kwiatkowski of the Lackawanna Police Department was honored with the prestigious Police Officer Award by the Bar Association of Erie County (BAEC) during its annual Law Day celebration on Friday, April 11, 2025. This award recognizes outstanding law enforcement service that strengthens the effectiveness of the American system of justice and freedom under law.
A 16-year veteran of the Lackawanna Police Department, Officer Kwiatkowski has served as the sole School Resource Officer (SRO) for the entire Lackawanna City School District since 2022. Committed to building trust with students, he plays an active role in school safety committees, audits, and daily visits to each school. His commitment to building trust and fostering positive relationships with students has been instrumental in enhancing school safety and community engagement.
Beyond the district, Officer Kwiatkowski leads numerous community policing initiatives, including the Learn to Play Program, National Night Out, and Shop with a Cop, which provides holiday shopping experiences for children.
He also serves on multiple boards, including the WNY Law Enforcement Helpline and the Micah Hyde Imagine for Youth Foundation, earning the 2024 HYDE 5 Award for his contributions. His dedication to fostering connections between law enforcement and the community makes him a deserving recipient of this year's Police Officer Award.
