Students work in class.

Our 2nd-grade students in Ms. Katus's class have been diving into essential reading strategies to build their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension skills. This week, they focused on using context clues to determine the meaning of new words, helping them expand their vocabulary in a meaningful way.

To improve reading fluency, students participated in choral reading, reading aloud together to build confidence and expression. They also learned about captions in texts, discussing how these small but important details help readers understand key information.

Ms. Katus modeled comprehension strategies, guiding students through close reading techniques to analyze and interpret texts more deeply. By asking thoughtful questions and revisiting passages, students developed a stronger understanding of what they read.

These engaging lessons are equipping our young readers with the tools they need for lifelong literacy success!
