Message from the Principal:
Dear Martin Road Elementary Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our families back for the 2019-2020 school year! I truly hope that your summer has gone well and you are as excited for the upcoming school year as we are. Last school year, I had the honor of taking over the building principal role as Mr. Lyons moved into the position of High School Assistant Principal and Mrs. Andreozzi moved into the role of Principal of Special Education for the Lackawanna City School District. Mr. Matteo Anello also became our Assistant Principal. His 20-plus years of educational experience is a true asset to our educational community. Together, we are continuing the outstanding work that Mrs. Andreozzi and the Martin Road staff have done while we are taking the next steps to guide our building into the future. We inherited an amazing facility with one of the finest groups of educators in all of Western New York. We thank you for entrusting your children with us and welcome your partnership in their education.
I have loved every position that I have ever held throughout my educational career. For the previous 19 years, I have worked in various tutoring, teaching and administrative capacities within area school districts with the majority of my years being spent as the Dean of Students / Assistant Principal of Global Concepts Charter School. I have also had the privilege of serving on the Lackawanna Chamber of Commerce from 2011 until 2017 with three of those years in the role of Treasurer. When the opportunity to come back and serve Lackawanna became available, it was a dream come true for me. I love what our community has to offer and I look forward to working with all of you and your children.
Research shows that parental involvement in a child’s education increases academic achievement, builds positive attitudes and fosters greater maturity and responsibility within the child. As a result, one of my primary areas of focus has been to build parent involvement and communication within our building. I send out a weekly newsletter via email that highlights what we have done the previous week in our school and what the following week will bring. We also utilize many different avenues to communicate with families and to highlight the amazing work that your children are doing on a daily basis. Please email me at
fhahn@lackawannaschools.org
if you would like to receive the weekly emails.
As we welcome all of our new second grade students as well as our returning students, please feel free to always contact your child’s teacher first with any concerns you may have. Please know that I am always available to meet with you in person or talk over the telephone as well. As a parent of two young children myself, I understand how much love, care, time and energy you put into your children. As the instructional leader of this school, I assure you that every decision will be made in the best interest of your child and their academic development. I cannot wait to begin our school year together. Please enjoy the rest of your summer!
Best regards,
Frederick Hahn
