250,000 minutes of reading. One duct-taped principal!

As a reward for the students of Martin Road Elementary School successfully completing a five-week reading challenge, Principal Fred Hahn was duct-taped to the cafeteria wall on Friday, Feb. 14.
As part of the challenge, the students had to read at least 250,000 minutes by Feb. 13; that goal was surpassed well ahead of then. In total, more than 400,000 minutes were read!
Students got to duct tape Mr. Hahn to the wall over the course of their lunch periods. At around 1 p.m., the chair he was standing on was taken out by the two top readers - fifth-graders Fatima Ali and Sumayyah Siddiqui. In the end, the tape held for Mr. Hahn!
Students had to prove their reading time by keeping weekly logs. The goal of the challenge was to help promote literacy and motivate students to read both at school and at home.
